PET Scan Day

Today was PET Scam day for Willie. He went in at 7:30 am for the 45 minute scan. He had to get an injection and lay around and wait for it to take effect. Then he got scanned. It will take a couple days for the results. The doctors can look at that along with the EUS and the CT and make a determination for treatment and staging the cancer. I’m hoping like heck it’s only in esophagus. That way, we can worry less. Monday we meet with the surgeon and Tuesday the oncologist.

We did have a bit of a scare yesterday. Willie got a call from the scheduler at 3:30 that they needed to cancel the PET because they couldn’t get authorization from our insurance. He called me and I told him hurry and call back and tell them we’ll just pay for it. So he did and they got him back in the books. Cost of this procedure is $8-$10,000. I called my insurance and they were closed due to the federal holiday, Juneteenth. So my bet is that they didn’t get clearance to do it before the holiday. The thing is, the doctors can’t do anything without the PET so next weeks appointments would be useless. I’m super glad it worked out. We can sort out the insurance next week. This is important.

Willie wants to wait until cherry season is done to do surgery and treatment.
